Irish striker Evan Ferguson is set to be on the market from Brighton and Hove Albion and there are many clubs interested in the talented youngster.
Since joining Brighton in July 2022, Ferguson has proved his immense talent despite being only 18 years old. Under Seagulls boss Roberto de Zerbi, Ferguson has improved immensely which is evident through scoring 10 goals across 25 appearances in all competitions last season.
The Republic of Ireland forward has helped Brighton secure a place in the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League for the first time, helped by Ferguson’s two goals against Southampton in May, he has been a great asset to the team overall.
Ferguson joined Brighton’s youth team at 16 despite having had trials with Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton and Celtic. John Morling, academy manager at Brighton secured the player due to having worked for the FAI with his father Barry.
Brighton manager de Zerbi has shared his confidence in Ferguson’s ability, saying “I think he will become one of the best players, the best strikers in the Premier League”. He has been impressed by how quickly Ferguson can carry out tactical demands and change his style of play.
At just 18, Ferguson’s breakthrough season has led football experts to believe he could develop into a £100 million player. His pace, power and variety of his game have caused him to stand out greatly as a player; catching the attention of Premier League giants such as Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United. It is rumoured that Spurs are interested in signing Ferguson as a replacement for top striker Harry Kane who has joined Bayern Munich.
Arsenal are preparing for negotiations next summer for Ferguson as their major signing as in order for the Gunners’ performance to improve, the forward area is paramount. Arsenal are supposedly offering a £100 million to sign the Irish forward which would be a close second to the club’s largest signing of Declan Rice for £105 million from West Ham.
In recent years, Brighton has built a reputation for scouting players and developing their skills before selling them for great profit. This can be seen through the club’s recent sale of Moises Caicedo whom they bought for £4 million and sold to Chelsea for a British record of £115 million. The clubs interested in signing Ferguson have been told that to prize him away from the Amex Stadium will take another record breaking fee.
Paddy Power and Betfair both have Ferguson at 2/9 to not sign or agree a contract with another club during this after summer transfer club window, being confident that he will stay with Brighton. Meanwhile, other new online bookies have Ferguson at 5/1 to sign with Tottenham, 14/1 to sign with Chelsea and 16/1 to sign with Manchester United.
Overall, the future is uncertain for Ferguson, but with his immense talent and ability he is not short of considerable options and there is no doubt that he has a very exciting future ahead of him.
