Who Will Be The Next Premier League Manager To Go ?

October 10, 2019 | By E-FanSite | Filed in: Betting Guides.

In the febrile world of Premier League football, the clubs that are under-performing are examining their options…so expect the guillotine to drop in the next wee while on any of the following three struggling managers – Marco Silva of Everton, Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham Hotspurs or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of Manchester United.

Bookmakers reckon that Marco Silva, 42, is most likely to be sacked.  Everton are now 3rd from the bottom of the League, having won only 2 of 8 matches played, despite a whopping spend on new players of over £100 million this summer.  Currently, majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is said to remain supportive but the forthcoming West Ham game on 19 October may prove a deal-breaker. Bookmaker Skybet offer odds of 4/ 5 that Mr Silva will be given his marching orders.  The top tip for his replacement? None other than former Everton manager (for 11 years until 2013) David Moyes who is currently kicking his heels without a management position. Erik ten Hag of Ajax and Mikel Arkteta of Manchester City are also said to be in the mix.

What a difference a year makes!  The 2018/19 season was astoundingly good for Tottenham Hotspurs, featuring a fourth place position in the Premier League and a Champions League final to boot.  But the current season has proved a major challenge thus far, with only three wins from 8 matches played, leaving the club some 13 points behind League leaders Liverpool.  And let’s not forget the utter humiliation of the Champions League match earlier this month when the London side was thrashed by Bayern Munich 7-2 in a crushing home defeat.  Bookmaker Skybet offers odds of 5/1 that the Argentinian manager Mauricio Pochettino will be heading into the sunset, and speculation is rife that his departure may be very soon indeed…possibly after the forthcoming match against Watford on 19 October.

The cosh may also fall on Manchester United’s manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, this side of Christmas.  Odds on his departure range from 3/1 from bookmaker Skybet to 5/2 from bookmaker Betway.  After a brief honeymoon period, the Norwegian is looking out of his depth at a club that has struggled to match its halcyon days under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.   The US billionaire owner, Malcolm Glazer, has encouraged a heavy focus on revenue generation (a stunning £627 million in the turbulent 2018/19 season) but many argue that certain players in the team lack selfless team spirit and are chasing the money rather than the all-important match wins.  Mr Solskjaer has not yet had the opportunity to make all the changes he had wished for the team and his forwards remain a work-in-progress, but patience may be running thin now and Manchester United’s glory years look very far away.
